Rebecca Cora Johnson was born near Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on the Fourth of July 1841. (Can't get much more patriotic than that.) The family moved to Illinois, settling near Nauvoo in 1845.
Rebecca wed David Avise Eaton, son of David J Eaton and Agnes (Avise) Eaton, on 4 April 1860 in Hancock county, Illinois.
David and Rebecca Eaton had children: Kathryn Agnes Eaton (1861 - 1926), John Eaton (1863 - 1899), Nellie Eaton (1864 - 1943), Anna B. Eaton (1866 - 1940) and Albert Avise Eaton (1872 - 1930), their youngest child.
Rebecca was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, as well as of the Congregational Church of Payson (Illinois.)
David Eaton, a traveling salesman, died suddenly in his home in 1887.
Rebecca wed her second husband two years later: William Habighorst, a widower with three daughters. William Habighorst ran a butcher shop and during this marriage Cora ran Habighorst hotel, a fancy restaurant and hotel in Payson, Illinois. This hotel received several write-ups in local newspapers. People had wedding receptions there; the Governor once stopped over for lunch.
During her second marriage, Rebecca was known by her middle name Cora, making her Cora Habighorst. Her obituary has her name as Cora Rebecca Habighorst.
Cora died in her daughter's home, where she had settled following her second widowhood. The funeral services were also conducted at that address, and Cora was buried beside her first husband, David Avise Eaton, in the New Payson Cemetery.
