Always known by the Irish form of his name, Liam was the 5th of 10 children of John Joseph & Elizabeth (née McGowan) Mansfield of Sandymount, Co. Dublin, Ireland. He was born at the family home on Tritonville Road.

✞ William Joseph Benedict 'Liam' Mansfield is buried with Maureen, his wife of 45 years at Holmpatrick Graveyard in Skerries. Also buried with him is his brother Rory. Next to them is the grave of his brother Foncie as well as the grave of his parents, sister Alice, brothers Seán & Cathal and his grandparents Capt. Thomas & Mary Anne (née King) Mansfield, over which Liam erected a now well know Holmpatrick landmark, the large Mansfield Family Memorial Stone honoring his family and ancestors.
