Always called by the Irish form of his name, Seán was the 5th of 10 children of John Joseph & Elizabeth (née McGowan) Mansfield of Sandymount, Co. Dublin, Ireland. He was born in the family home on Tritonville Road.

Seán was an avid sportsman, a teammate with his brother Liam on the school football team and an amature boxer.

At the age of 18 he passed away after a brief illness in the home in which he was born.

✞ Seán Mansfield is buried with his mother, father, brother Cathal, sister Alice, & his grandparents Capt. Thomas & Mary Anne Mansfield in the family plot at Holmpatrick Graveyard in Skerries. Next to him are the graves of his brothers Liam, Rory & Foncie and sister in-law Maureen.

Over Seán's grave is the Mansfield Family Memorial Stone erected in 1988 by his brother Liam. Along with his ancestors remembered & honored on it are his brothers Tom & Michael, (both buried in New York). Yet to be added to the stone are the names of Seán's brothers Morgan O. P. (buried in New York, USA) & James de V. (buried in Co. Wicklow).
