Ainm Gaeilge:
Tomás Fiontán de Móinbhíol

Tom was the 2nd child and eldest son of John Joseph & Elizabeth (née McGowan) Mansfield of Sandymount, Co. Dublin, Ireland.

During the Irish War of Idependence and Irish Civil War, Tom served with his brother Michael in the nationalist youth organization Na Fianna Éireann, (Warriors of Ireland), receiving their paramilitary training directly from legendary Irish Republican Freedom Fighter Countess Constance Markievicz.

In 1926, at the age of 18, Tom escaped "The Troubles", emigrating to America to join his grandfather Michael McGowan & aunts & uncles already in New York and New Jersey.

Tom died from injuries sustained in a diving accident at the age of 24. It's unknown what became of the girl he intended to marry, Flo, whose full name has been lost to time.

In the 1940's, the Irish government posthumously awarded him both the Fianna Éireann Pin and War of Independence Service Medal.

✞ Thomas Fintan Mansfield is buried in his grandfather's family plot at Third Calvary in Queens, New York. With Tom are his grandfather Capt. Michael McGowan, Michael's 2nd wife Agnes and Tom's aunt & uncle Jack & Bessie McGowan. Only Jack's name appears on the tombstone.
