BEAUFORT - Malcolm Hunter McMillan, Sr. of Beaufort, husband of Ora Sherrill Poulnot McMillan, died Wednesday, September 4, 2013, at the age of 81.
Born on December 10, 1931 in Mullins, he was a son of the late Edward Tate McMillan, Sr. and Sadie Kate Hunter McMillan.
Malcolm was a graduate of The Citadel Military College of South Carolina, where he was a member of the Summerall Guard. Malcolm and Ora married on March 31, 1955, and treasured each other for the next 58 years. Malcolm developed and managed properties along the coast, and earlier in his career, he partnered with his brother James Keith McMillan to own and operate a construction company, retail centers, and a Chevrolet dealership in Mullins. Malcolm loved the Lord, his family and church dearly. He spent his life serving others, never met a stranger, and was happiest when he was on the water.
Malcolm was predeceased by two brothers, Edward Tate McMillan, Jr., and James Keith McMillan and by daughter Ora Elizabeth McMillan.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, Ora, are children, Malcolm Hunter McMillan, Jr., of Fayetteville, NC, Marshall Poulnot (Denise) McMillan of Charlotte, NC, Pamela Poulnot McMillan Bunes of Madison, CT. Frederick Scott (Sophie) McMillan of Greenville and Marjory Keith McMillan (Frank) Mitchell of Fripp Island; 10 grandchildren; and 4 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 6 in The Parish Church of St. Helena, located at 505 Church Street, in Beaufort. A family graveside internment will be held at noon, Saturday, Sept. 7 at the McMillan Cemetery in Mullins.
