PORTSMOUTH - George E. Archer, 73, died Jan. 17, 2003. He was a native of Portsmouth, a Baptist and an avid fisherman. He was a retired cable repairman for C&P Telephone Co. and a member of Nansemond Suffolk Masonic Lodge No. 0077 and the VFW. He was an Army veteran of Korea and a Bronze Star recipient.
Mr. Archer is survived by his wife, Mary K. O'Donnell Archer; five children, George Archer II and wife, Susan, Richard Archer and wife, Dawn, David Archer, Cathy Alvarez and husband, Al and Charles Archer and wife, Kathleen; three siblings, Harry Archer and wife, Susan, Ida Winslow and husband, Guy E. Winslow, Janrae Spears and husband, William; 10 grandchildren, Pam, Matthew, Kirstan, Andrea, Justin, Nickie, Joshua, Jenna, Julie and Jessica; and a great-grandson, Tommy.
A funeral will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. in Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens Mausoleum Chapel by the Rev. D. Lynn Hardaway. The family will receive friends today from 6 to 8 p.m. at Loving Funeral Home, Churchland Chapel.
