Roy Gaither Metcalf, 86, of 1468 Barnardsville Highway, died Wednesday, Aug. 28, 2002.
Mr. Metcalf was born Oct. 20, 1915, in Madison County and was a resident of Buncombe County for most of his life. He was a retired farmer who loved being in the tobacco fields and with his cattle.
Roy was the son of the late Robert G. and Sue Gardner Metcalf.
Surviving is his wife of 53 years, Nell Ballard Metcalf; sons Eugene Metcalf of Shelby and Robert, Steve and Donald Metcalf, all of Barnardsville; sister, Mae M. Malinowski, of Asheville; grandchildren, Daren, Joey, Darrell and Savannah and great-grandchildren, Jacob and Elizabeth.
The graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday in the William Anderson Cemetery at 1452 Barnardsville Highway with the Rev. Dean Metcalf officiating.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday at West Funeral Home, 17 Merrimon Ave., Weaverville.
