Virginia Catherine Dodgion Abbott, 93, of Lynchburg, died Thursday, May 4, 2006, in The Carrington. Born Sept. 10, 1912, in Russel, Ky., a daughter of the late John Christopher Dodgion and Claire Oaks Dodgion.
Virginia has been a member of Timberlake Baptist Church since 1974. Previously she had been the chairperson of the dining room for two years and a choir member for 14 years at First Christian Church. She was also a former president of Windemere Garden Club, a member of Home Demonstration Club and was a caregiver for Mrs. John P. Hughes for many years. In her spare time, she loved decorating and art.
In addition to her parents, Virginia was preceded in death by her husband, William Thomas Abbott; two sisters, Julia Dodgion Critzer and Wuanita Dodgion Stone; a brother, John Christopher Dodgion, II; and a grandson, Mark Edward Guthrie.
She is survived by a son, W.T. David Abbott and his wife, Barbara of Forest; two daughters, Jeannine A. Guthrie of Lynchburg, and Julia Marilin Ryan and her husband, Michael of Forest; four grandchildren, Michelle Wooldridge and her husband, Kenneth of Forest, Matthew Guthrie and his wife, Victoria of Crozet, Troy Abbott and his wife, Lynn of Hollywood, Md., and Michael Abbott and his wife, Heather of Christiansburg, seven great-grandchildren, seven nephews, and four nieces.
