A man and his daughter were killed early Thursday in a crash involving a vehicle and train in Kosciusko County.

Kosciusko County Sheriff's Deputies and other emergency responders were dispatched around 4:42 a.m. to investigate reports of a vehicle that had been struck by a freight train at a crossing in the town of Sidney.

Upon arrival, responders were joined by personnel from the Sidney Fire Department, and they found a 2008 Mazda that had been struck by a Norfolk Southern train at the State Road 13 crossing. The train was eastbound, and the Mazda was northbound.

The Kosciusko County coroner declared the driver of the vehicle, 37-year-old Wesley T. Cox, and his 4-year-old daughter Grace, dead at the scene from blunt-force trauma. They were from Laketon, according to the sheriff's department.

The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
