Deceased Name: GIDEON D. AUMAN

Gideon Darius Auman, 68, of the 500 block of Cornwall Road, died March 11, 1997, in Maryview Medical Center.

Originally from Lebanon, Pa., he moved to Portsmouth in 1952 after four years service in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. Mr. Auman, ''Juicy,'' was employed at Ford Motor Co. for 44 years where he was a quality control inspector. He loved to play pool and was an avid golfer and bowler. He was the loving husband of Jania R. Auman and devoted father to three daughters and a son. He was a friend to all he knew.

Survivors include three daughters, Shara L. Hildebrand of Virginia Beach, Kimberly L. Auman, Kari B. Harris, both of Chesapeake; a son, Samuel Hetzel of Portsmouth; four sisters, Almeda Beard, Virginia Rose, Edith Sholley, Mildred Hostetter, all of Lebanon, Pa.; three brothers, William F. Auman Jr., Warren Auman, both of Lebanon, Eden Auman of Virginia Beach; and a very close friend of the family, Julia Flowers. He was preceded in death by a brother, Carl Auman.

A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Friday in Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel. Entombment will be in Meadowbrook Memorial Mausoleum. The family will receive friends at Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel, from 7 to 8 p.m. today. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Leukemia Society of America.
