Helen (Billups) Johnson of Columbus, Mississippi, was the widow of the late Samuel Canton Johnson and a daughter of Alonzo Percival Billups. Her obituary published in a Columbus newspaper dated Sunday Morning, May 26, 1946 reads as follows:

"Mrs. H. B. Johnson Rites Are Today
Service Will Be Held At Gunter's Funeral Home This Afternoon"

"Services for Mrs. Helen Billups Johnson will be held today at Gunter Funeral Home. Final rites will be conducted by the Rev. L. B. Wages, pastor of the Calvary Baptist Church, assisted by the Rev. B. C. Wilcutt, with music by the Friendly City Quartet. Burial will follow at Murrah Chapel cemetery.

Mrs. Johnson died Friday morning at a local [Doster] hospital after an illness of several weeks. She leaves a daughter, Mrs. A. J. Mullins, with whom she made her home; two grandchildren, Frances Evelyn Mullins and Jack Mullins, U.S.N.; four nieces, Mrs. L. L. Stewart and Mrs. G. H. Randle of Bessemer; Mrs. Ira Trapp and Mrs. Sammie Reid, Columbus.

Mrs. Johnson was active in church work until halted by failing health. She was 63.

Active pallbearers will be Mack McCown, Hosie McCown, Davis Nolen, William Alonzo Billups, Rufus Quick and Everette Shelton.

Lloyd L. Stewart, George Randle, Ira Trapp, Jack Sonsen, John Wilson Belue, Dr. E. A. Brown and Dr. J. W. Cox have been listed as honorary pallbearers.

Mrs. J. C. Foster, Mrs. J. L. McWilliams, Miss Lena Easley, Mrs. Everette Shelton, Mrs. Marshal Ashcraft, Mrs. R. L. Mann and Mrs. C. E. Murphy will serve on the flower committee."

NOTE: Her year of birth ranges from 1871 to 1883 depending on the source and I have found none to be credible, including the family's own record and this obituary. The most often repeated year is 1874.
