Mr. McCollum was a native of the Wren Community, the son of the late Julius A. and Zoa (Porter) McCollum.
Mr. McCollum was of the Baptist faith and retired from Smith and McCollum Dry Wall in 1982, where he was co-owner. He was an Army veteran of World War II, where he received numerous medals in addition to the Purple Heart. He was a lifetime member of The Disabled American Veterans and a 35-year member of the Western Carolinas Model A Ford Club.
Surviving are his wife of 58 years, Beth R. McCollum; a daughter, Ann M. Page and husband, Don; two grandchildren, Michael Page and wife, Amy, and Kristi Page; two great-grandchildren, Austin and Avery Page, all of Piedmont; and sisters, LaMerel M. Finley and Julia M. McGee, both of Easley. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, James McCollum.
The family received friends Thursday, August 25, 2005 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Funeral services were held at 3:00 p.m. Friday, August 26, 2005 in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown, with Pastor Lamar McAbee officiating. Burial will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Park.
