Stan Smith
1949 ~ 2013

Our loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother went to be with The Lord on Thursday, August 22, 2013.
Stan was the youngest of four children born to Jasper and Genevieve Smith on June 13, 1949 in Boise. He was active in high school sports at Borah High School and was All State in Basketball, All American in Football, and held the state shotput record for many years. Stan played football on scholarship at the University of Idaho.
Stan then went on to volunteer in the U.S. Navy and served in the Vietnam Conflict. He served as a Navy Seal from 1969 to 1973 and was injured twice, earning Purple Hearts, during his three tours in Vietnam. Stan was awarded the Navy Cross, the second highest award available to members of the Navy, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard, for actions performed in the Vietnam conflict. He loved spending time with the children at the orphanage near his base in Vietnam during his down time. He returned from the war and met Barbara Scott on a blind date that was orchestrated by his mother Genevieve.
Stan and Barbara were married on May 20th, 1973. Stan worked numerous jobs to support his family, finally retiring from the Idaho State Tax Commission due to medical complications.
Stan was always giving and trusting of his fellow man. He supported numerous people throughout his life and never asked for anything in return. Stan was good natured and was always a jokester. His life was full of humor and laughter as he brought joy to those around him. Stanley endured multiple years of severe pain as a result of his injuries but he never complained and was always more concerned about his family and others more than himself.
Stan is survived by his wife Barbara, and his children Scott Smith, Grant Smith, and Leah Smith. His son-in-law Rob Brainard and six grandchildren also survive him along with his sister Lynda (Earl) Snider, and his brothers Larry (Dee) Smith, and Eldon (Jeanette) Smith.
There will be a viewing from 5-8 p.m. at the Cloverdale Funeral Home on Wednesday, August 28th. His funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, August 29th, 2013, at the Cloverdale Church of God.
