EDWARD COFFIN DIES IN RENO

Longtime Resident Taken By Death

Edward B. Coffin, longtime and well-known resident of Reno, died last night at a local hospital after an illness of about six weeks. Mr. Coffin, 86 years of age, had lived in Reno for nearly 73 years.

Born at Yankee Jims, a small community near Auburn, California, on December 19, 1861, Mr. Coffin was one of a family of eight children, all brothers. He went to school in Reno, attending grammar school at the Orvis Ring school.

For many years he was in the grocery business in Reno, being associated with the late George Larcomb. The firm was known as Coffin and Larcomb.

Mr. Coffin retired from the grocery business about 15 years ago, and during recent years had devoted his interests to the insurance business.

Active in civic affairs, Mr. Coffin at one time was a member of the Reno City Council, serving for four years. In 1888, Mr. Coffin and Miss Ida Pullman were married in Reno, and to this union were born four children. Mrs. Coffin died in 1928, and several years later Mr. Coffin remarried.

Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Minerva Ayer Coffin, two daughters, Mrs. Albert Porteous of Glendale, California and Mrs. Alton Glass of Reno, and a son, Harold Coffin of Berkeley. Another son, Chester L. Coffin, a Santa Monica attorney, died several years ago.

The Ross-Burke Company will announce funeral arrangements.
