Karen Sue Carlson, 70, of Salina, formerly of Rooks County, died Saturday, Nov. 6, 2010. She was born Dec. 4, 1939, in Osborne County to J. Harlan and Helen J. (Chapel) Miller. She is survived by her sons, Matthew (Laura) and Wes (Lisa), all from Salina; brothers, Jene Miller and Gary Berry, both of Derby; and three grandchildren, Tyler, Ashley,and Alyssa. She was also called "Grammy by 2 other children, Laura's sister's daughter Abigail and her sister Gay's grandson Aiden from her nephew Todd (Tonia) Caton. She was preceded in death by her sister, Gay Lynn Miller Caton Surles; and brother, Donald Lee Miller.

Kay was loved by all who knew her and she was a wonderful mother and especially grandmother to her grandchildren whom she would do anything and everything for. She was a selfless individual who during her lifetime helped to start the Saline County Animal Shelter and herself adopted animals that others wouldn't. She was a talented pianist and had a way with plants, flowers and animals.

She was also a well loved teacher for Friends University.

A private family service has been arranged for Thursday, Nov. 11.

There will be no visitation or ceremony for anyone other than family and close invited guests. Memorials may be given to Saline County Animal Shelter.
