The Dutch in the Netherlands were forced to take on surnames in 1811 by Napoleon's brother, who was in charge of running the Netherlands at that time. The surname Herrema was registered in city hall for the first time in 1811.

Mr. and Mrs. H. Herrema celebrated their fortieth wedding anniversary at their home 1242 McReynolds Ave. NW Thursday. About thirty guests took part in making it an enjoyable evening. The rooms were decorated with lilies. A light lunch was served. Mr. and Mrs. Herrema were presented with several beautiful gifts.
