Albert G. Poore, 224 New Avenue, Erwin, who would have celebrated his 94th birthday August 8th, passed away Wednesday morning, July 17, 2013, at Johnson City Medical Center Hospital after a brief illness.
Albert was born August 8, 1919, in Embreeville, Tennessee, a son of the late Isaac and Lillie Mae Miller Helton Poore. He was married to Edith Gloria Clark Poore, who preceded him in death on May 30, 2010.
Albert was a faithful member of Grace United Methodist Church, where he was involved with several church activities, including teacher of the Senior Men's Sunday School Class.
He was a 50 plus year member of the Masonic Lodge and the Order of the Eastern Star. Albert was a member of the El Katif Shrine in Spokane, Washington. He was also a member of The Commandry and the Council. Albert was honored to receive the KYCH Recognition.
He retired from military service after 29 years in the United States Navy and United States Air Force. In the Navy, Albert fought in both the Pacific and North African campaigns and was awarded the Air Medal. After leaving the Navy and joining the Air Force, Albert trained in the missile field and retired as a Ballistic Missile Analyst and Technician for the Titan Two missiles.
He was a loving and devoted husband and Dad.
Other than his parents and wife, Albert was preceded in death by two sisters: Dorothy Poore Keplinger, in 1985; and Jamimia Helton Tucker, in 1998; a brother: William Carson Helton, in 1974.
He is survived by two daughters: Nancy E. Poore, RN, Erwin, and Scherry Lavoie Lesanto and husband, James, Henderson, Nevada; one sister: Louise Poore Bowers, Kingsport; two grandsons: Frank Lavoie and wife, Margarit Yaghjian, Jamaica, Charles Lavoie and wife, Debi Seek, Las Vegas, Nevada; three great grandson: Erik Lavoie, Max Lavoie, both of Jamaica, Jacob Lavoie, Las Vegas, Nevada; two brothers-in-law: Herman Clark and wife, Barbara, Florida, Doug Clark and wife, Gail, Erwin; one sister-in-law: Helen Bowman, Erwin. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Graveside services for Albert will be held at 12:00 Noon Friday, July 19, 2013, at Evergreen Cemetery. Reverend Garland James will officiate. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Gordon Moughon, Herman Clark, Doug Clark, William Mardis, Randy Ledford, Harold Luttrell, Charlie Webb, David Shell, Jimmy Lesanto, Charles Lavoie and Frank Lavoie.
The Tennessee Honor Guard consisting of Boone Dam VFW Post # 4933 and the United States Naval Reserve will honor Albert with military rites.
Those attending the graveside service are asked to gather at the cemetery by 11:45 a.m. Friday.
