BUTLER - William E., aged 74, longtime resident of Kings Park, NY, formerly of Brooklyn NY, died on July 13, 2013 after a courageous battle with pulmonary fibrosis which he contracted during his recovery efforts at the World Trade Center after the attacks of September 11, 2001.

Bill was a 32 year veteran of the FDNY retiring as a Captain. He worked most of his career at Engine 201 in the Sunset Park section of Brooklyn and then serving as a Lieutenant & Captain in Queens. After he retired he worked as a Fire Marshall for the Town of Smithtown and was a member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians Division 3.

Beloved husband of Peggy for 52 years. Loving father of Bill, Lt. Steve (PAPD), Eileen Cristiano and the late Thomas (FDNY on 9/11/01) and father-in-law of Martha Butler-O'Brien and Patrick Cristiano (NYPD). Cherished grandfather of Sean, Katie, Kelly, Cassandra, Brianna, Patrick and Christopher.

Dear brother of Nora McFadden and brother-in-law of James McFadden and the late Muriel & Jerry Gunn. Fond uncle of Kathy (Rick) Whalen, Jerry (Dena) Gunn and Tara (Brendan) Hoyle.

Services held at the Butler-Hughes Funeral Home, Kings Park, NY. Funeral Mass at St. Joseph's R.C. Church, Kings Park. Interment at Northport Rural Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Thomas M. Butler Memorial Scholarship Fund, c/o Butler-Hughes Funeral Home.
