He was a member of Flat Rock Baptist Church since he was 10 years old. Mr Gilland drove a school bus for a number of years and enjoyed farming. He retired from The Post Office as a Mechanic and was a Veteran having served four years in the Army in the Pacific Theater during WWII.
Mr. Gilland was preceded in death by brothers, Zuma and Grover Gilland, sisters, Mozelle Gilland, Francina Gilland, and Ella Gilland Brittain.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Edna Shockley Gilland, son and daughter-in-law, Neal Dean and Veleta Gilland, Villa Rica, daughters and sons-in-law, Shelia and Bob Sidney, Villa Rica, Carmen and Kenny Stokes, Villa Rica, Sonya and Donald Swafford, Villa Rica, 7 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren also survive.
