Audrey K. Squires, 89, of Detroit Lakes, died Wednesday, October 2, 2002, at Emmanuel community Nursing Home in Detroit Lakes.
Audrey Katherine Olson, the daughter of Peter and Lena (Severson) Olson, was born October 18, 1912, at Medina, Minnesota. She grew up and went to school in the surrounding area. On November 15, 1930, she married Jareld E. Squires in Staples.
Audrey was employed as a waitress by several Detroit Lakes restaurants and as a receptionist for Dr. Arndt for 15 years. She then moved to Fargo and worked for the Elks Club until she retired in 19080. She moved to the Emmanuel Community in October 1997.
Audrey was an avid bowler until the age of 82. She enjoyed going to the lakes with family and friends. She liked the outdoors and especially enjoyed baking for her grandchildren.
She made many friends and enjoyed their company. She also enjoyed going for ice cream with family members. There are many good memories left behind with her family and friends.
Audrey is survived by four children, Jareldine Kjono of Anoka, Beverly Runger and LeRoy Squires, both of Detroit Lakes, and Judy (Don) Schatz of Fargo, 11 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jareld; her parents; a son, Wayne Squires; a brother, James Olson; a great-grandson, Paul Squires; and a great-granddaughter, Andrea Leitheiser.
Funeral services were held Saturday, October 5, at Emmanuel Nursing Home, with Chaplain Vicki Marthaler officiating.
Casket bearers: Julie Horn, Cynthia Wilcox, Karen Fernald, Daniel Leitheiser, Robert Leitheiser, Colleen Leitheiser, Debra Schatz Rasell, Don Schatz Jr., David Squires, Alan Squires and Ann Wallace.
Interment: Oak Grove Cemetery, Detroit Lakes.
