On April 29, 1968 U.S. Army Private First Class Gerald D. Aiton died in Vietnam, from the wounds he sustained while serving as the Door Gunner of a Helicopter that was engaged in combat operations against a hostile force.

Prior to joining the U.S. Army, Gerald grew up in Centralia Washington, where he attended Centralia High School, graduating with the Class of 1964.

The Awards and Decorations that Gerald received for his Military Service include: U.S. Army Crew Member Wings, the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Air Medal, the Purple Heart, the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, and the Vietnam Campaign Medal.

Gerald was 21 years old at the time of his death, and he was survived by his parents, Taylor N. and Betty Jean (Milton) Aiton of Centralia Washington.
