Our beloved friend 'Dirty Ernie' passed away at his home in Arlington, Virginia, yesterday afternoon at about 5 pm. He had battled cancer for several years. A newly-wed of just a few months he leaves behind his loving wife, Patricia M Burchett, to whom our sincere condolences are wished. Ernie is also survived by three step-children and six step-grandchildren; cousins, Francis Fish Tomlin, ann Tomlin Adams, John Tomlin, Tracy Tomlin, Michael Tomlin, Jerry Fish, Greg Fish and Danny Fish; his 2nd mother, Julia W Harris. Ernie is predeceased by his parents, Ernest M Buck Sr and Ruth Potter Buck.

Ernie was a life-long resident of arlington County and a Life Member and the Past Chief of the Clarendon Volunteer Fire Department, a postition which he held with distinction for many years. Ernie had retired from the Arlington County Sheriff's Department and took his talents first to the US Department of State and then to Interpol, from which he finally retired from active employment completely.

Ernie had a life long passion for music and had a local professional band that brought the enjoyment of their music to many throughout the area. Always fun to be around and usually 'the life of the party', Ernie hosted a number of well attended, unforgettable, parties for his local law enforcement friends and colleagues. His knowing glance and sly grin peeking out from under his trademark, jet black, handlebar mustache whenever he saw a friend come into view will forever be missed.

A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, July 20, 2013 at 2pm at the Kena Temple, 9001 Arlington Boulevard, Fairfax, Virginia 22031, with ceremonies by the American Legion, the Masons and the Elks. Family visitation to follow.

Interment will be at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.

Donations in Ernie's honor may be made to the Kena Temple at the above address.
