Theodore "Ted" E. Gacek, 86, passed away peacefully on June 29, 2013, at the Clyde E. Lassen Veterans Administration Nursing Home, St. Augustine. Born in Minneapolis, Minn., he joined the U.S. Navy during World War II.

After the war he worked with a wholesale drug store supply company. Ted was also a member of the American Legion for 43 years. He and his wife Bernice moved to Elkton, Fla., after his retirement.

Survivors include his beloved wife, Bernice; children: Barbara Gacek, Teresa (Joe) Morris, Michael (Brenda) Gacek; step-children Barbara (Mark) Freimuth, Stephen (Dianne) Orth, and John (Susan) Orth; sister Amy Zarricna; brother: Robert Gacek; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

There will be a memorial Mass 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 3, 2013, at San Sebastian Catholic Church. The burial will be at Jacksonville National Cemetery at a future date. In lieu of flowers, donations to Community Hospice of Northeast Florida in Ted's memory would be appreciated. Craig Funeral Home Crematory Memorial Park is in charge of arrangements.
