Lorraine is the eldest of my 4 daughters. At the time when she was pregnant with Michael Christopher, she already had 3 daughters and desperately wanted a boy. Sadly, 22 weeks into the pregnancy Lorraine realized that all was not well. She hadn't felt baby Michael move for several days. A visit to the midwife confirmed her worst fears that little Michael was no longer alive. For reasons l do not understand, poor Lorraine had to wait another week before being taken into the hospital to give birth to her dead baby.
l don't know how Lorraine got through that week. She still had her daughters to look after and all the normal things a mother has to do, cooking, cleaning, taking the girls to school and picking them up afterwards, trying to be a 'normal' mum. When all the time she knew that the baby boy she was carrying inside her was lifeless. That there would be no bouncing bundle of joy to hold and kiss when the time came to deliver him.
When that time came l was with her at the birth to hold her hand and comfort her as best a mother can along with her partner Michael. The two of them were to too distraught to see the baby afterwards but l went to see little Michael.
He looked so perfect, l couldn't see anything wrong with him. He was fully formed, a normal, healthy looking baby.
It's hard to understand but l suppose these things happen for a reason.
Michael Christopher had a beautiful funeral service and was cremated. His ashes were put into a beautiful little box and were buried in the grave of his cousin Brendon Thomas 'Chucklebunny' Wright.
