Obituary, Baltimore Sun, October 7, 1910: "The funeral of Mr. William J. Hiss, who died in Chicago on September 29, took place in this city Wednesday. Burial was in Greenmount Cemetery. Mr. Hiss was 78 years old. He was born in Baltimore and for years was a member of the firm of Hiss & Austin, furniture manufacturers. About 20 years ago he went West. Besides a widow, he is survived by sister, Mrs. Samuel J. Soper, 1315 McCullough street, and a brother, Mr. Phillip Hanson Hiss, of Roland Park."
