Martha Ellison, 96, Final Rites Were Held February 22

Funeral services for Mrs. Wilbur Clay (Martha) Ellison, 96, of New Market, held February 22 in Walker-Merrick Funeral Home in Clarinda, were officiated by Rev. Carl Cummings. Mrs. Ellison died in Ringgold County Hospital in Mount Ayr February 18, 1980. Interment was at Guss Cemetery, Taylor County, Iowa.

Martha Jane Ellison was born October 26, 1883 in Grafton, West Virginia, the daughter of I. [srael] J. [ames] and Harriett Mandy McDaniel Corbin.

She was married to William Wilson who preceded her in death and later married Wilbur Clay Ellison who died in 1952.

Mrs. Ellison lived in New Market after the death of her husband until 1967 when she went to live with her daughter and family, Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Randolph of rural Hopkins. She was with them until June of last year when she went to Mt. Ayr with her other daughter and family, Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Cannon.

Mrs. Ellison was an active member of the New Market Baptist Church.

Mrs. Ellison spent only a few days in the nursing home and hospital in Mt. Ayr prior to her death.

She was preceded in death by two infant sons, five brothers, a son Ralph Wilson and stepson, Carroll Ellison and a daughter-in-law, Ada Wilson.

Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Virgil (Mildred) Cannon, Mt. Ayr and Mrs. Raymond (Marjorie) Randolph of Hopkins, Missouri; 13 grandchildren, and two great great grandchildren. Mrs. Icie McCarl of Bethesda Care Center is a sister.
