He was born in Harnett County, N.C. on June 11, 1925, to the late Alton Thomas and Pearlie Knight Thomas. He was preceded in death by brothers, Asa Thomas, Herbert Thomas, Floyd Thomas and Donald Thomas. Mr. Thomas served with the U.S. Army in Japan. He had been employed as a machinist at Saco Lowell, a carpenter at Ft. Bragg, American Tobacco Company and co-owner of Green Valley Florist. He was a member of the Benhaven Emergency and Fire Dept. for 22 years. Mr. Thomas was a member of Olivia Presbyterian Church for 58 years where he was a Deacon, Elder, Elder Emeritus, Treasurer, Sunday School Superintendent, Chairman of the Cemetery Fund, Chairman of Board of Trustees, Custodian and received many Church Awards.
Surviving is his wife of 58 years, Daphene Coleman Thomas, of the home; daughter, Linda Thomas Cook of Sanford; grandchildren, Amber Cook James and husband Jay of Lillington and James Eric Cook, Jr. of Sanford and great- grandchildren, Brayden, Makayla and Dalton James.
A visitation will be held at Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home on Monday, June 27, 2011, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM.
A funeral service will be conducted at Olivia Presbyterian Church on Tuesday, June, 28, 2011, at 11:00 AM by the Rev. George Walton and Rev. Percy Coleman officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
