Maggie Valley, Melburn Lee Miller, age 91, of the Dellwood Community, passed away Saturday, June 1, 2013 at Maggie Valley Nursing and Rehab Center.

A native of Madison County, NC, he was the son of the late Andrew Frank and Jessie Case Miller. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Edith Miller in 2006, three brothers, Olen, Reverend Doyle and Reverend Don Miller; three sisters, Zell Hannah, Eula Clark and Pansy Wells. Melburn was a United States Army Veteran serving in the Pacific during WWII. He was a paratrooper and made a number of jumps including the historic jump on the island of Corregidor "The Rock" in the Philippines. He retired from Dayco Corp with 38 years of service and was a member of Dellwood Baptist Church.

Melburn will always be remembered for his faithful service to his church and country. He loved telling stories and making others laugh. He enjoyed gardening and sharing his harvest with neighbors.

He is survived by four daughters, Linda Greene and her husband James of Lake Junaluska; Anne Strickland and her husband Gary of Leicester; Nancy Rathbone and her husband Mitchell of Bethel; Melba Powell and her husband Jeff of Candler; one son, Phil Miller of the home; 6 grandchildren, Ashley Greene, Steve Strickland and his wife Stephanie, Pat Scarborough and her husband Mike, Tyler Rathbone and his wife Keisha, Allison Hicks and her husband Tyler, Andrea Gilliam and her husband Matt and five great-grandchildren, Adam Scarborough, Scarlett and Stonewall Strickland, Jaxon and Judson Hicks.

The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 4, 2013 at Dellwood Baptist Church. Reverend Lloyd Fish, Reverend Barry Willett and Reverend Bobby Rogers will officiate. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Monday at Wells Funeral Home of Waynesville. Burial will follow at Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Park. At other times, the family will be home of Linda Greene, 50 Fox Fire Estates, Waynesville, NC 28786.
