Funeral services for Mrs. Taylor M. Smith, local radio personality and clubwoman, were held this morning at 10:30 o'clock at the First Methodist Church, with interment in Forstlawn Gardens. Mrs. Smith, who was known to thousands of radio listeners as Teen Taylor, died at her home 425 E. 21st St., early Tuesday after an illness. She was 47. Born Ellen Meriwether in Birmingham Sept. 28, 1911, she was a direct descendant of Nicholas Meriwether, a leader of one of the first parties of white settlers in Central Alabama. She attended Birmingham-Southern College. Before coming to Anniston some seven years ago, she resided in Richmond, Va., Louisville, Ky., Macon, Ga., and Gadsden. Mrs. Smith was on the staff of Radio Station WHMA during her residence here and directed personal interview programs that attracted wide interest. Her activities included membership in the First Methodist Church, Women's Civic Club and Women's Military Committee, and she was a popular mistress of ceremonies for many programs and special events. Survivors include her husband, Taylor M. Smith, who is managing editor of the Anniston Star; two sons, Taylor Meriwether-Smith, Jr., and Benjamin Baldwin Meriwether-Smith, both of Anniston; a sister, Mrs. Richard Hails Foster of Vicksburg, Miss., and her mother, Mrs. Elizabeth Bullock Meriwether of Gadsden.
