FORMER IRELAND CITIZEN DIES
John W. Root, a former citizen of Ireland, passed away at his farm home near Birdseye, Monday morning, Jan. 14, after a lingering illness of cancer of the liver and tuberculosis. He had reached the age of 76 years. Mr. Root was a resident of Ireland for a number of years, and was better known to the people of this community as "Whit." Several years ago Mr. Root and family left Ireland and went to Chicago, where they resided for a few years, later returning to Dubois County and settling on a farm near Birdseye, where they have since resided. Mr. Root is survived by his widow and the following children: Mrs. Mary Schneck of Chicago, Walter Root of Milwaukee, Albert Root, Mrs. Lucy DeLosh and Mrs. Dorothy Nelson of Birdseye. He also leaves several grandchildren and a larger number of friends to mourn his demise. Funeral services and burial took place at Birdseye [sic], Wednesday. (Burial in Cox Cemetery)
