Charles L. Cates, 60, 2269 N. 600 W., Marion, IN died suddenly Monday night while visiting his daughter in Woodland, CA. He had not been ill and apparently suffered a heart attack.

Mr. Cates was a farmer in Richland Township and also worked at Foster Forbes Glass Co., Marion. He was a member of the Mt. Olive United Methodist Church.

Survivers include his wife, Madalyn, a daughter, Mrs. Paul (Shirley) Teal, Woodland, CA, a son Don (Carol) Cates, Jonesboro, IN, grandson, Aric Cates, three sisters, Mrs. Gerald (Velma) Wolfe and Mrs. Edgar (Mary) Cook, both of rural Marion, and Mrs. Austin (Waneta) Colling, rural Jonesboro; six brothers, Clarence Cates, Swayzee, Russell Cates, Arthur Cates and Jesse Cates, all of Sweetser, Robert Cates, Muncie, and Lester Cates, rural Marion.

Burial will be in Gardens of Memory Cemetery,Huntington County.
