Erie man dies after I-79 rollover crash

An Erie man died early this morning after a one-car crash on Interstate 79 near the West 26th Street exit.

Erie County Deputy Coroner Dennis Suscheck identified the man today as Tyler G. Hodson, 32, of Erie. State police in Girard said Hodson was headed north on Interstate 79 within the city limits shortly before 1 a.m. today when he started to drive off the west side of the highway.

Police said Hodson overly corrected, and his vehicle -- a 1997 Ford F-250 -- slid into a median near the West 26th Street onramp, a sign post and then an embankment before rolling over and trapping Hodson.

Hodson was transported to UPMC Hamot and was pronounced dead shortly after arriving there.

Police said they are still investigating the cause of the accident.
