CAME TO CLAY COUNTY IN EARLY DAYS; HAD LIVED WITH DAUGHTER
Mrs. John Adams, a former pioneer resident of Clay county, died last Tuesday, December 17, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. R.A. Ogilvie, at Grand Forks, North Dakota, at the age of 83 years, 10 months and 7 days. Her death was caused from old age and complications.
The body was brought to Spencer last Thursday and funeral services were held in the chapel of the Cobb Funeral home, Friday afternoon. Mrs. Joy Roberts sang a solo "Under His Wing." Mrs. Roberts and Mrs. L.H. Foster sang two duets "Abide With Me" and "Rock of Ages." They were accompanied at the piano by Mrs. Claude Pullen. Burial was made in Riverside cemetery. Mrs. Ogilvie accompanied the body to Spencer.

Katherine Varner was born in Spencer county, Indiana, February 10, 1846. When she was but a child, the Varner family moved to Charlotte, Iowa, at which place she grew into young womanhood. On November 19, 1865, she was united in marriage to John Adams. They made their home in Charlotte for several years.
In the spring of 1884 they moved to Everly, Clay county, Iowa. While there they passed through the varied experiences of pioneer life. Conveniences were few, difficulties were many, but Mrs. Adams cheerfully gave herself to the struggles of these early days. Her family, her church and community interests were dear to her.
In the year 1918, Mr. and Mrs. Adams moved to Brainerd, Minnesota, where they lived until Mr. Adams death which occurred in 1918. Two years after her husband's death, Mrs. Adams moved to Grand Forks, North Dakota, and had since been making her home with her daughter, Mrs. R.A. Ogilvie.
Besides being a member of the Methodist Episcopal church, she was a member of the Order of Eastern Star.
Surviving her are two sons, Early Adams of Brainerd, Minnesota, and John Adams of Jamestown, N.D.; two daughters, Mrs. Effie A. Munn of Ivanhoe, Minnesota, and Mrs. Pearl A. Olgivie of Grand Forks; also one sister, Mrs. Martha Morgan of Lonetree, Iowa, eleven grandchildren and other relatives and friends.
