PLEASANTON, Calif. - Lena M. Gilbert, of 4261 Dundalk Court, Pleasanton, formerly of Olean, N.Y., passed away peacefully in her sleep Tuesday (Oct. 2, 2012).
Born May 30, 1915, in Olean, she was a daughter of Michael and Mary Schultz Cashimere. On May 3, 1944, in Palacios, Texas, she married Steven Gilbert, who predeceased her in 1990.
Mrs. Gilbert worked as a bookkeeper, first for RB Moore Supply in Bolivar, N.Y., and later for the former Bradley Builders in Olean.
Mrs. Gilbert was a member of and a longtime volunteer at St. John's Church in Olean. She enjoyed gardening and driving along the California countryside. She also loved eating ice cream and spending time with her grandchildren.
Surviving are a son, Michael (Jereen) Gilbert of Pleasanton; two grandchildren, Jackie Gilbert and Steven Gilbert, both of Pleasanton; a sister, Isabelle Sirdevan of Asheville N.C.; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by a brother, Ed Cashimere.
Burial will be at St. Bonaventure Cemetery.
