Mrs. Aakjer was born in Newark, NJ, a daughter of the late Rodney and Florence Turner Disbrow. She retired from Mountainside School District in New Jersey. Mrs. Aakjer was a model for Flemington Fur Company. She was predeceased by a brother, Rodney "Buzz" Disbrow.
Surviving are two sons, Steve Aakjer of Myrtle Beach and George Aakjer, III and his wife Pam of Conway; two grandchildren, Christopher and Casey Aakjer; and one sister, Besty Fox of Celina, TN.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Thursday at Goldfinch Funeral Home, Conway Chapel with Rev. Jimmy McManus officiating. Entombment will follow in Hillcrest Mausoleum.
