James H. Greene, loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather.
OLEAN -- James H. Greene of 1071 Sheahan Road died Wednesday (Feb. 18, 2004) at the Pines Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center, Olean, following a long illness.
Born Oct. 17, 1928, in Bradford, Pa., he was a son of the late Howard and Mabel Bartlett Greene. On June 25, 1950, in Olean, he married the former Dorothea S. Feuchter, who survives.
Mr. Greene was a graduate of Bradford (Pa.) High School, class of 1946, and served with the U.S. Army in Japan after World War II.
He was employed by various ice cream companies including Perry's Ice Cream for over 30 years. He then was employed at Portville Central School and Cattaraugus County Nursing Home. He later worked part time at J&R Auto and at BOCES.
Mr. Greene was a member of Portville Masonic Lodge 579 F&AM, Salamanca Chapter 266 Royal Arch Masons, Salamanca Council 82, St. John's Commandery 24, Scottish Rite Coudersport Consistory, Knights of the York Cross of Honor and Tyler Chapter 97 Order of the Eastern Star in Portville and served as district lecturer. He also was a member to St. Andrew's United Methodist Church in Weston's Mills.
Surviving besides his wife are four daughters, Anne (David) Witherell of Olean, Karen (Steven) Sherman of Copperas Cove, Texas, Vicki (Daniel) Schmidt of Portville and Kelly (Ronald) Lauta of Lancaster; eight grandchildren; two step-granddaughters; a brother, Howard B. (Jane) Greene of North Canton, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by three brothers, Walter E. Greene, Stanley C. Greene and Robert C. Greene.
