Mr. Lawrence Kitt Tucker, one of Putnam County's most highly esteemed citizens, and for many years prominent in the insurance and real estate business in Palatka, died this morning in Riverside Hospital, Jacksonville, where he was taken for treatment about three weeks ago.
The deceased was a native of South Carolina, but in early manhood came to Putnam County and settled at Fruitland, where he married and resided for many years, later moving his family to Palatka. He served his county ably and well as school superintendent. He was an active member of St. James Methodist Church, being chairman of the board of trustees. He is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Joseph P. Lamb of Palatka, and two sons, H. Finley Tucker and Lawrence Kitt Tucker, Jr., prominent citizens of Jacksonville, one brother, E. M. Tucker, of Fulford, and one sister, Mrs. T. N. Gautier of Miami.

Funeral services for Mr. Lawrence K. Tucker, age 81, prominent Palatkan, who died early last Friday morning in Riverside Hospital, Jacksonville, following an illness of three weeks, were held from St. James Methodist Church here Saturday afternoon, with the pastor, Rev. D. D. Dieffenwierth, officiating,
Interment was made in West View Cemetery, with the following friends serving as pallbearers, Honorary, Messrs. W. M. Williams, S. J. Hilburn, H. O. Hamm, Henry S. McKenzie, John M. Millican, and A. P. Carswell; active, Messrs, Walter W. Tilghman, J. A. Ginn, Alex Lorentzen, C. S. Green, Lester B. Bush and Max Bogue.
The large concourse of friends attending and the beautiful flora offerings, bore testimony of the high esteem in which the deceased was held by the community where he had been an honored citizen for so many years.
Mr. Tucker was born August 1, 1858, on his father's plantation in Dorchester County, S.C., near Charleston. He was the son of Joseph Tucker and Eliza Tucker.
When nine years old, he moved with his parents to Putnam County, settling near Welaka and many years later moving to Palatka.
Mr. Tucker always took a prominent part in public affairs in Putnam County and had a wide acquaintance through the State. For some years prior to 1914, he was superintendent of public instruction in Putnam county. For the past 25 years he was engaged in the insurance and real estate business at Palatka.
He was an active member of the St. James Methodist Church of Palatka and the Knights of Phythias. For some years he was president of the Putnam County Realtors Association.
He was married in 1884 to Martha O'Brien of St. Augustine, who died about 25 years ago. In 1927 he wed Miss Rose Weaver of Rockford, Ill, who survives him. He also is survived by a daughter, Mrs. J. P. Lamb of Palatka; two sons, H. Finley Tucker and Lawrence K. Tucker, Jr., prominent business men of Jacksonville; and one brother, E. M. Tucker, of Miami Beach.
