Mr. Jeffery Hughdon Barnette, age 47, of Rome, passed away Tuesday, May 21, 2013, at his residence.

Jeff was born in Floyd County, Georgia on March 11, 1966, son of Wilson Hughdon Barnette and JoAnn Nichols Barnette. He lived his entire life in Floyd County and was a 1984 graduate of Coosa High School where he lettered in Football and Wrestling. Jeff received an Associates Degree in Accounting from Georgia Northwestern Technical College. He owned and operated J. H. Barnette Construction Company and Mills & Associates Accounting. Jeff was a member of the Rome/Floyd County Chamber of Commerce, the Exchange Club of Rome, and the Pleasant Valley North Baptist Church.

Jeff was an avid sports fan, especially the Georgia Bulldogs and the Atlanta Falcons. Because of his love for sports and children, He coached youth football, baseball, and soccer for several years touching and influencing the lives of many young people in Floyd County. Jeff was also a member of the Elementary Coaching Association where he coached elementary football and baseball. Jeff was a loving husband, father, son, brother and devoted friend to many. He was preceded in death by his grandmothers, Mrs. Lee Tate and Mrs. Verdie Nichols.

Survivors include his wife, the former Cindy Hullender, to whom he was married on March 23, 2006; a son, Ezra Luke Barnette; a step-daughter, Belle Tanner; his parents, Wilson Hughdon and JoAnn Barnette, Rome; 2 sisters, April Thames, Rydal, and Donna Sentell, Rome; a brother, David Barnette, Rome; his mother-in-law, Marcia Hullender, Centre, AL; several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins also survive.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 23, 2013, at 3 pm at Pleasant Valley North Baptist Church with the Rev. Mac McCurry and the Rev. David Harper officiating. Interment will follow in Oaknoll Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel on Wednesday evening from 6 until 8 pm.

Pallbearers are asked to assemble at Pleasant Valley North Baptist Church on Thursday at 2:30 pm and include: Chris Perry, Brian Fowler, Mark Busby, Chris Hart, Gene Meyer, Jeff Agan, Todd Brooks, and Brian Law.

Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel has charge of the funeral arrangements.
