Crime victim. He was the son of a rabbi who grew up in Brookline, MA. He was on the swim team at Brookline High School where he graduated in 1992. He then majored in history at the predominantly Jewish Brandeis-University and graduate in 1998. He was a personal trainer who had spent most of his young adult life in the gym. In recent years, he played on an intramural basketball team in Cambridge, MA. Of late, he lived off of Moody Street in Waltham, Middlesex Co, MA. In 2004 he lost his sister Tammy to anorexia. In 2011 his brother, a well known jazz musician, had been hospitalized for months with illness. On Saturday, September 11, 2011 he @37 had gathered together with 2 friends, Erik Hacker Weissman @31 and Brendan Halley Mess @25, in the latter's Harding Avenue apartment to watch a televised football game with the New York Jets vs Dallas Cowboys and all 3 were texting about the game. It appears they were killed about 9pm in a gruesome slaying. Police found them on 12 Sep 2011 about @2:25pm with their throats slit and their bodies covered with marijuana and $5000 in cash. The triple murders remained a mystery for over a year, but updated info indicates that the murderers were Tamerlan Tsarnaev and Ibragim Todashev. Raphael's body was taken to Israel for burial.
