LATTA - Carroll Glenn Allen, Jr., 56, died in his home, January 20, 2011. Funeral services and entombment will be held at 4:00 p.m., Sunday, January 23, 2011, in the Allen Family Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Saturday, January 22, 2011, at Kannaday Funeral Home in Latta, SC.
Mr. Allen was born November 15, 1954, in Dillon, SC, the son of Barbara Jean Shelley and Carroll Glenn Allen. He was married to Ione Edwards Allen for 32 years. He was a member of Latta United Methodist Church. Glenn was a graduate of Latta High School and earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Agricultural Economics from Clemson University. He was a past member of the Agriculture Commission 4th Circuit from 1982-1987, where he traveled to Asia representing and promoting SC agriculture. Glenn was also a past member of the SC Soybean Board, the Flue Cured Tobacco Festival "Tobacco Grower of the Year 1986", a past winner of the Phillip Morris Grower of the Year Award, and SC Farm Bureau "Young Farm Family Winner 1983". He was Co-Owner of Betty Allen Farms. He was an avid outdoorsman and a major supporter of the Dillon County Rifle and Gun Club.
He is survived by his parents Barbara Jean and Carroll G. Allen of Latta, SC, his wife, Ione E. Allen of the home, one son, Blake (Krista) Allen, and one daughter, Amanda (Jeff) Huggins all of Latta, SC. Mr. Allen is also survived by a brother, Donald Keith (Libby) Allen, and two grandchildren, Aubrey Kendall Allen and Luke Allen Huggins.
