Clarence Ray Hornbaker, 88, of Mercersburg, Pa., died May 11, 2013, at The Village of Laurel Run, Fayetteville, Pa.

Born Sept. 8, 1924, in Mercersburg, he was a son of the late Moody Melvin and Mary Pine Hornbaker.

Early in life, he worked for the B & O Railroad in Cumberland, Md., for nine years. He later worked for Rockwell Construction of Mercersburg. Most of his life was spent as a self-employed logger and home builder.

He enjoyed hunting.

His first wife, Lena Mae Smith Hornaker, died in 1994. His second wife, Susan R. Mills Hornbaker, died in 2012.

Surviving family are three sons,
William Ray and wife, Connie L. Hornbaker, and
Ray Duane and wife, Karen L. Hornbaker, all of Mercersburg, and
James Melvin and wife, Judith A. Hornbaker, of Fort Loudon;
eight grandchildren;
14 great-grandchildren; and
several great-great-grandchildren.

Also surviving are three sisters,
Ruth Daley of Hagerstown, and
Verna Shipley and
Edith Etter, both of Lewisberry, Pa.; and
a brother, Jacob Hornbaker of Chambersburg.

In addition to his wives,
he was preceded in death by
a daughter, Shirley Mae Repp, who died in 1979;
a sister, Dorothy Senseny; and
a brother, Melvin Hornbaker.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 15, at Lininger-Fries Funeral Home Inc., Mercersburg, with Pastor Jonathan D. Laye officiating. Burial will be at Blairs Valley Church of God Cemetery, Clear Spring, Md.

Viewing will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and one hour prior to the service Wednesday at the funeral home.
