Lenwood Curtis Alger, 83, of Elkton, passed away Thursday, May 2, 2013, at his home.

Mr. Alger was born Nov. 6, 1929, in Rockingham County to the late David Hunter and Ida Florence Stoneberger Alger. He was also preceded in death by brothers, Harry and Grover Alger and sisters, Lorene Michael and Lucille Breeden.

Lenwood was a U.S. Army veteran. He was employed with the 7-Up Bottling Co. in Elkton for many years and later Shen-View Enterprises. He found great enjoyment while deep-sea fishing and loved spending time with family.

On Nov. 24, 1950, he married Jessie Ann (Knight) Alger, who survives. Also surviving are three daughters, Debby L. Eppard (wife of the late Terry R. Eppard) and Kathy S. Shifflett and husband, Ronald, all of Elkton, and Patricia A. Mock and husband, James, of Massanutten; adopted daughter, Karla R. Turner of Shenandoah; brother, Carroll Alger of Chincoteague; four grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, May 4, 2013, at the Mount Olivet Cemetery in McGaheysville with Minister Terry Edwards officiating.

The family will receive friends Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Alger home in Elkton. Friends may also call from noon to 5 p.m. Friday at the Kyger Funeral Home in Elkton.
