BEECH ISLAND, S.C. - Entered into rest on Monday, March 6, 2006, Mr. Ernest Laverne Spires, Sr., 59, husband of Mrs. Shirley Spires, of 114 Scarbrough Dr., Beech Island, SC. He was preceded in death by his father, Mr. Marvin Spires. Surviving with his wife is his mother, Doris Spires; three children, Ernie Spires (Kim), Mike Spires (Lisa), and Travis Spires (Shannon); a sister, Mary Ann Dyches; a brother, Rob Spires and six grandchildren, Kaylee Spires, Kaitlyn Spires, Raynee Spires, McKenzie Spires, Madi Spires and Garrett Ashley. Mr. Spires was born in Richmond County. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran of the Vietnam War. He was a retired supervisor for S.C.E. & G with the Urquhart Plant with 35 years of service and he attended Clearwater First Baptist Church. He was very active in many aspects of community service. He was a loving son, husband, father, grandfather and friend. Funeral services will be on Thursday at 11 o'clock at Clearwater First Baptist Church with Rev. John Bolin officiating. Interment will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Park. Mr. Spires will be placed in the church at 10 o'clock on the day of the service. Pallbearers will be Ben Barfield, Carl Boyd, John Broome, John Wall, Aaron Ingram, Jeff Spires and Chad McRae.
