At 9 p.m., on Sunday, the 7th of Nov. 1915, Rev. Andrew Frederick Klopfer passed from this world of sorrows and toil to his eternal reward. We, at this time when there is such great need of faithful laborers in the Lord's vineyard, cry out, "Lord, thy ways are past finding out," but at the same time we commit all into His hands and with resignation to His good and gracious will, say, "Thy ways are ever best."

Rev. Klopfer was born in Montgomery Co., O., on the 13th of Sept. 1864, his God-fearing parents being David F. and Fredericka Klopfer. On the 23d of October, 1864, he was baptized by Rev. C.F. Fritze and after a thorough course of instruction in the saving doctrines of God's Word confirmed on the 17th of June, 1988, in St. John's church near Greenville, O., by Rev. C.H. Althoff. When he had attained the age of two and one-half years his parents located near Greenville, O., where the departed grew to manhood.

His heart's desire to devote his life in service to his Lord in the holy ministry, began to be realized when in Sept. of 1883, he entered Capital University at Columbus, Ohio. After a year in the preparatory department and two years in the college he entered the seminary, from which he graduated on the 28th of May, 1889. He was ordained to the office of the holy ministry at Greenville, O., on the 2d of June, 1889, the Revs. C.H. Mayer and F.J. Dingeldey officiating. He served the following congregations in his ministry of over twenty-six years: St. Paul's at Erastus, Ohio, from June, 1889-1904; Emanuel's and St. Mark's at Montra, O., from 1904-1905; pastor housefather of the Wernle Orphans' Home at Richmond, Ind., fom 1905-1907; Nazareth and Peace congregations at Chatfield, O., from 1907 to the time of his death. During the time of his minsitry he preached approximately, 1,950 sermons, exclusive of those delivered at 84 funerals; he performed 243 baptisms, confirmed 193, communed 5,632 persons and united 83 couples in marriage.

Our deceased brother was united in the bonds of holy wedlock on the 30th of May, 1889 with Miss Anna Kress of Crestline, O. This union was blessed with seven children, three of whom preceded their father into eternity.

About four weeks ago the departed sustained a broken rib and though suffering as a result of the injury, he continued in the performance of his pastoral duties. It seemed, however, that one of his lungs was bruised and when he later contracted a cold it quickly developed into pneumonia and typhoid. He was forced to take his bed on Wednesday evening of last week, his condition growing worse very rapidly. He made preparation for the end which he looked for. Always zealous in his life's work as a steward of the household of Christ, his Lord's work was uppermost in his mind in the hours of his sickness. Even in the hours of delirium he frequently repeated portions of that beautiful hymn "My Church, My Church." Every means in the knowlege and power of men was used to snatch him from the hand of the grim reaper death, but all of no avail.

On Sunday afternoon he once more received the consolation of the Word and with his family partook of the blessed body and blood of his Savior. Thus strengthened he as ready to fight the last battle and go with his Master who called his servant, at the time stated above, from all labor to peaceful rest. Though our hears bleed and our eyes flow with tears, let us rejoice at our brother's reward of grace. He has fought a good fight and kept the faith, and may we too fight faithfully that there may henceforth be laid up for us also a crown of righteousness.

He attained the age of fifty-one years, one month and twenty-four days: "Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth; yea, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labors; and their works do follow them."

He leaves to mourn his departure: his grief stricken wife; three sons: Frederick, twenty-one years of age; Herbert sixteen, and Edward, seven years old; one daughter, Martha, nineteen years of age; one brother, Frank Klopfer of Greenville, O.; one sister, Mrs. John Boubeck, Versailles, O.; an orphaned and sorrowing parish, and his many brethren in the ministry.

The following brethren took part in the funeral services: L. Hess officiated at the house; J.J. Allwardt read the altar service; J. Doescher preached the German sermon on Hosea 6, 1; Ph. Dielmann preached the English sermon on 2 Tim. 4, 7-8; J.W. Schillinger read the obituary; W.A. Wiseman, C.H. Herrnstein, A.C. Berlin, L.H. Pertner, Geo. Kuchner, Theo. Stellhorn were the pall-bearers.

In addition the following were present: Dr. Lenski, Revs. J.W. Kuntz, E. Kittel, C.F. Mittler, E. Eckhoff, E.H. Gerfen, F. C. Michelfelder, E.F. W. Stellhorn, S.H. Mollenauer, M.F. Laufer and Teacher Paul Mohrhoff.
