Larry L. Hughes, 79, died November 20, 2000, at a local hospital.

Born in Commerce, Ga., Mr. Hughes was a retired master chief signalman of the U.S. Navy after 26 1/2 years of service and also retired civil service. He was a member of Haygood United Methodist Church, Federal Manager Association and Fleet Reserve Association.

He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Roma Barnett Hughes; a daughter, Elizabeth H. Copenhaver and husband, Scott; son, Robert L. Hughes, both of Chesapeake; two sisters, Doris Shell of Athens, Ga., and Edna Watson of Atlanta, Ga.; and two grandchildren, Robert M. Smith and Forrest R. Hughes.

A funeral will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Bayside Chapel, by the Rev. W. Michael Noble Sr. Burial, with military honors, will be in Colonial Grove Memorial Park. Family will be at the funeral home Friday from 7 to 9 p.m.
