Professional Boxer. Born in Naval, Biliran, Philippines, his number of victories are the most ever achieved by a Filipino boxer. As a professional he started in the welterweight division and fought his way up to middleweight. On October 2, 1939, he fought Fred Apostoli for the middleweight title in the United States and became the only boxer from the Philippines ever to become world champion at middleweight. He defended that title three times until he lost to Ken Overlin on points on May 23, 1940. He ended his career with 102 wins, 67 by knock out, 28 losses, 12 draws in a total 142 professional bouts. He was posthumously inducted into the World Boxing Hall of Fame in 1981.
