Funeral services for Mitchell Harley "Bud" Carpenter, 83, of Nesmith, will be at 2 p.m. today at Jones Chapel First Baptist Church, the Rev. Chris Godbee, and Dr. Jeff Steele officiating, burial will be in Jones Chapel Cemetery. He will lie in state from 1-2 p.m.

Mr. Carpenter died Wednesday, April 18 in Falkville. He was born on September 24, 1929 in Lawrence County to Lee and Beatrice Carpenter.

He attended Addison High School and went on to serve his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. He was a member of the Jones Chapel First Baptist Church for 46 years.

He is proceeded in death by his wide, Barbara Brown Carpenter; sister Bernice Carpenter Colburn; and great grandaughter Kailey Butler.

He is survived by his sons, Randy (Pam) Carpenter and Michael (Glenda) Carpenter; daughter, Sherry (Michael) Stapp; sister, Larene (Cleo) Umphrey; he was Paw Paw to six grandchildren, Lori (Danny) Butler, Brandy (Joey) Morgan, Elliot Carpenter, Lexi Carpenter, Kinsie Hill and Alana Stapp; and four great grandchildren, Reilly Butler, Macey Butler, Hadley Butler and Adalyn Morgan.

The family wishes to thank Falkville Nursing Home and Southern Care Hospice for the great care given to both parents.
