HATTERAS - Mary Lou Barnett Gray, 81, of Hatteras, died Wednesday, April 1, at the Outer Banks Hospital. Born in Suffolk County, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Ellis A. and Caroline Rowland Gray. She retired from quality control with General Electric and also from the Buxton ABC store and was a member of St. Johns United Methodist Church in Avon.
Mary Lou is survived by her husband, Robert Hal Gray of the residence; two sons, Elton R. Barnett, Jr. and wife, Beth of Bradenton, Fla. and Timothy D. Barnett and wife, Renee of Buxton; two granddaughters, Ashley and Krista Barnett; one great-granddaughter, Kinsley Barnett; two brothers, Ellis A. Gray, Jr. and John D. Gray; a sister, Cheryl Gray McDonald; two stepdaughters, Margaret Easley and Melodi Schwartz; seven step grandchildren; and two step great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, Mary Lou was preceded in death by a husband, Elton R. Barnett; and a sister, Elizabeth Gaskins.
A viewing will be held on Friday, April 3, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Hatteras United Methodist Church. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 4 at 11 a.m. at the church with the Rev. Ken Davenport and the Rev. Dwight Burrus officiating wit a luncheon to immediately follow. Burial will be at Ellis A. Gray, Sr. Family Burial Ground in Avon.
