He loved sports and he loved to compete whether it was a game of poker or a bowling tournament. He always had an attitude that everyone around him was going to have fun. It always was.

His first wife was Linda Carroll who he met in New York and had a daughter Eva.

He grew up with some competitive brothers and a father in Roy that pushed them along. Joe and his brothers all were bowlers and pretty good at it competing together in several championship runs in York. Joe bowled in many competitions all across the country throughout the following years while in the Navy.

His second wife was Dawn Sharon Grimm. When he met Dawn, she was a single mother raising her daughter Dina who was born in 1961 to Dawn and Donald Eugene Bortner. In 1967 Joe and Dawn married and raised another daughter Mandy Jean with Dawn until he passed from his life into the hands of God.
