Died in an automobile accident. He was the cherished son of Joanne Tinkle West and Robert M. Berry.

Matthew attended school in both Highland Park and Corsicana. He was a graduate of Highland Park High School, a student at North Texas University and a member of SAE fraternity.

His soccer skills were exceptional, and he both played and coached throughout his life, always willing to help younger athletes. In recent years, his devotions were focused on his family, his friends and his fraternity.

At the time of his death, Matthew was survived by his parents, his grandfather, James T. West and the late Lois T. West of Corsicana and his grandmother, Mrs. Arthur (Athalea) Berry of Arlington.

Matthew's family includes his aunts and uncles, Dianne (Bill) Short of Corsicana, Bonnie West of Dallas, Margie (Bill) Lindsey, Betty Berry and Frankie Berry, all of Arlington, Geraldine (Bob) Hall of Englewood Colorado, Latrelle (Arthur) Berry of Southlake, and cousins West Short of Dallas, Will Short and Kate Short of Corsicana, Sherry Allison of Euless, Rebecca Cline of Decatur, Leeann Berry of Dallas, and Mark & Jana Hall of Arroyo, Colorado.

Services were held on Sunday, July 3, 1994, at Sparkman-Hillcrest on Northwest Highway in Dallas, with burial in Oakwood Cemetery, Corsicana. Pallbearers included Oliver and John Albritton, Chris and Mark Faulk, Travis Neimeyer, and Josh Lallier.
